Local Authorities - what we can do for you

The Walk to School campaign is now in its 13th year. We have developed a huge amount over this time – especially as the environment in which we work has developed.

From the inception of the first school travel plans, to the recent changes in the Education and Inspections act (where authorities now have to conduct needs audits and infrastructure audits to encourage sustainable travel), the campaign has provided advice and help to school travel advisors, and other interested parties, in promoting sustainable travel to school.

Our highest profile event is the National Walk to School week in May – a firmly established date in the school calendar. We also run the UK side of the International Walk to School month (October) and provide the resources to run the WoW (Walk on Wednesday/Walk Whenever) scheme.

As well as setting the national theme, the campaign also provides resources to local authorities such as model press releases, and ideas on events to run.

What is less well known is that we also offer training courses – both the annual Walk to School conference, but also bespoke training from our parent charity Living Streets.
